Substance Misuse

We have been providing training in the substance misuse field since 2001, from awareness training for youth workers to level three courses for substance misuse staff. We can provide a complete induction programme, or bespoke input on specific topics from the modules below.

Drugs Awareness

1. Alcohol & other drugs of addiction – starting with an interactive session to identify different substances that are used and abused at different levels in society.


2. Harm Reduction principles and practice – considering the range of risks (drug, set, and setting) and the provision of advice, information and resources to reduce harm.

Alcohol Awareness

3. Alcohol guidance and types of drinking behaviour – identifying the levels of consumption that can cause ARBI; Thiamine; using the AUDIT assessment tool.


4. Alcohol Related Brain Injury (ARBI) – the nature of damage and consequences of ARBI? How do we engage affected individuals.

Treatment & Interventions

5. Treatment modalities and availability/ scarcity – funded and unfunded responses, treatment choices;  detox, maintenance, abstinence; community or rehab.


6. Therapeutic interventions and mutual aid – CBT / MI Solutions, NTA Resources. Mutual Aid meetings (AA, NA, CA), 12-steps; SMART UK; Al-Anon & Family Interventions.

Recovery & Safeguarding

7. Communities of recovery and lived experience – recovery capital: social connections, support networks, life skills, volunteering. 5 Ways to Wellbeing.


8. ARBI and self-neglect guidance and support – ACUK publications and resources; screening and assessment tools; support group outcomes.
